The Joy of Teaching Kids Yoga

If you’re considering joining our team, let me paint a picture of why I am passionate about the work we do here at The Balanced Child Method.

Empowering Children with Lifelong Skills

First and foremost, it’s a privilege to show the kids that they have the power to calm themselves anytime with their breath. They experience this first-hand in every. single. class. After we engage in energetic activities like dance, hopping on our mats, “skating” from side to side or jogging in place, I guide them back to “criss-cross applesauce,” where they learn to regulate their heartbeat and emotions through intentional breathing. It's incredibly rewarding to see these youngsters cultivate skills that will serve them for a lifetime and to know that I played a part in nurturing their journey toward self-discovery.

No Class Planning Hassles!

One of the many perks of teaching with The Balanced Child Method is the freedom from the burden of meticulous class planning. Unlike my adult classes, where I devote hours to crafting yoga flow sequences, TBCM provides the lessons and corresponding poses for you. Thanks to the ingenious formula developed by our founder, Amy Jo Hamilton, all I need is a library card and a printer to prepare for each class. The variety of classes the TBCM team has created is abundant! This streamlined approach allows me to focus my energy where it matters most: on fostering a welcoming environment for our budding yogis to thrive.

Mood Booster

The genuine delight that lights up their faces when I introduce something playful, like the lion's breath, is good for my soul. Recently, one kiddo belly-laughed throughout the entire session. It wasn't mischief; it was sheer joy. His infectious laughter lingered in my thoughts long after the class ended. These children are like beacons of positivity, always lifting my spirits whenever I'm with them.

I Lie Down on the Job

Every class concludes with savasana, a moment of pause accompanied by soft, soothing music — often Disney instrumentals. I invite the children to lay on their mats, encouraging them to listen to their breath and find stillness, or at least attempt to. Interestingly, I've noticed that the children respond most positively when I join them in lying quietly. It's a rare and delightful aspect of this job that sets it apart from any other I've had — where relaxation is not just encouraged but built into the very fabric of the work we do.

I Can Bring My Kids to Work With Me

One of the wonderful perks of teaching with The Balanced Child Method is the ability to bring my own age-appropriate children along with me to select locations. Whether it's teaching at parks and recreation facilities, libraries, summer camps, or after-school programs, I have the opportunity to have my kids join me. This not only helps alleviate the challenge of arranging childcare but also allows my children to experience firsthand the positive effects of yoga and mindfulness in these settings.

Having my children present during classes adds an extra layer of authenticity and relatability to my teaching, allowing me to demonstrate the principles of mindfulness and self-regulation in real time.

(It’s essential to note that this privilege doesn’t apply to teaching at daycare facilities or similar settings due to specific regulations and not all summer camp/after-school programs.)
